Etrex Vista Backlight Blanking Out

| I have a three year old Garmin Etrex Vista that has a screen blanking
problem. When I momentarily press the power switch to turn on
backlighting, the screen goes blank and only the backlighting turns on.
About a second later, the screen reappears for about a second and then
reblanks.
The unit appears to be operating normally otherwise. Version 3.6 software.
Anyone have a similar anomaly? Or suggestions?

| I haven't seen what you described. Please consider a "master reset"
with all that you might loose from ram.

Then maybe reload 3.60. Then a call to Garmin... Mix and match...
Please let the rest of us eTrex Vista 3 year owners in on what you
find.

| UPDATE:
I've done a hard reset per Garmin instructions, reloaded version 3.6
software and the problem persists. It looks like I may have to return
it to Garmin for repair.

A phone call to Garmin might reveal something we hadn't thought of or
heard about. Otherwise you've done your best I think.

| After reloading v3.6 s/w, new battery insertion, and several hard
resets, the thing still has the screen blanking issue. Garmin wants
$125 bucks to repair. Hmmmmmm, repair an old outdated b/w unit?...buy a
new current color unit? Hmmmmm, what to do????
Since I rarely use the thing in the dark, I guess I'll just keep the
thing until it fails completely. It's just a back up anyway?
