Author 60cs basemap out of sync

My 60cs basemap is out of sync with the roads, for example when driving down
the motorway (M62) the Triangle icon is about 1 - 1.5cm to the right of the
road and also I am 3 - 400m past a junction/exit before the map tells me I
am approaching it...

How can I calibrate the map?

Any help much appreciated.

No way. Load CitySelect or at least MetroGuide maps to improve
accuracy.

There is a setting which tells the unit to "hold to the road" (not the
exact words). Make sure that setting is ON. That should keep your
position arrow on the roadway.

What is happening to you is not unusual.

Another trick is not to zoome so much that the GPS reports "Overzoom" in
down right hand corner

I, personally, do not recommend this setting at all. It forces your position
to be displayed on the next street, be it correct or not.

Once it has you glued to the right road it usually works very well. It can
get its undergarments in a tangle at junctions though. If reception is a
bit sub-standard it can track you a significant distance down a completely
wrong road until the error gets large enough to make it let go. However you
are normally more interested in upcoming junctions rather than where you are
immediately afterwards so it is usually only a problem if there is another
turn coming up shortly after.

It's my experience that the basemap is very unprecise, and your
observations is normal with basemap. If you (buy and) install City
Select, the roads and your position will match.

So the basemap is not just a map with fewer roads, it is also
unprecise!

I once made a comparison:
http://www.oberon.dk/docs/gpsmap/mapcomp.html

When I'm driving in areas with no CS coverage, and use the basemap, I
allways selecet direct routing. I will then have a usable ETA and a
fair indication of where I am on the map.
