Quest New Operator Questions
|
|
|
| Hey All,
New owner of Quest w\City Select Europe v6 installed. Upgraded to v7.
But didn't load any v7 maps until a moment ago. (Should've loaded v7
before the trip. Pays to read and do research!)
Just got back from a trip through Belgium, Luxemburg, and Germany.
Weather was cloudy with periodic blue sky. I was seeing at least 8
satellites. The Quest worked flawlessly in Belgium & Luxemburg. Germany
drove me crazy. It was constantly losing track and recalculating. More
than once, it recalculated constantly for 5-10 minutes. Several times
it said to "Proceed 200 ft and turn left or right or do a U-turn. I
could not comply as we were 300 feet directly over the Rhine river. The
pointer was always left or right of the actual road - never on the
current road itself. When we crossed into Luxemburg and Belgium it
picked up where it was and ran like a champ.
I have just upgraded the unit software to 3.50 and the audio to 3.0 and
with the v7 maps loaded will take a burn through Germany and Austria in
September. We'll see how it goes.
Question. Do I leave the Datum at WGS84 or change to reflect whatever
country I'm in?
Thanks

It sounds like you didn't have any detail maps loaded for this region and
the unit was routing using the basemap.

You are correct sir. It came to me as I was shutting down for the
night. Earlier I had figured out how to get the new maps loaded and
remembering what I had done and the fact that things quit right at the
border got me thinking. So that's what my dumb-XXX should've done.
Another question: Is there a way to delete the base map?. My base is
v6. I have v7 loaded also. I can't see having two versions of the same
maps loaded at the same time.
Thanks,

You can't delete the base map: that's in ROM. When you say your basemap
is v6, I think you may be confusing the basemap with the v6 City Select
maps.

| My unit came with v6 of City Select Europe installed. I was under the
impression that this is the base map. If not then the base map must be
the Benelux area (Belgium,Netherlands
, & Luxemburg). The more I think
about it, it may be that they used v6 City Select to create the base
map for the Benelux area since the default maps in the unit are all
around that general area.

| Got it figured out. I removed v6 from the PC and recreated the maps on
v7. Dumped them to the unit and now all is right with the world!

| When i am making a trip abroad i use the option "selec maps around
route" Just being on holliday in france living in DK, the route througg
Germany was about 40 mb, which gave my 200 mb for maps i France.
I you are driving on the basemap set the option to recalculate to off.
