| I have a Streetpilot3 which is 3-4 years old...I'd like to update the
firmware in the unit and update my maps...Is it worth it?...I need to buy a
PC cable to hook up with the unit I assume...Has anyone done this and was it
worth it?...Thanks in advance...GG

Unless you no longer have the serial cable came with the GPS, else just
use the serial cable for firmware updating. I have upgraded mine about
twice, and don't know if it's worth or not.
1. Connect the Serial cable come with SP III to the serial port on your
computer, other end connect to the GPS
2. Run the firmware update and it will try to locate the COM-Port =
(usually
set "Auto-Detect". If it can't auto-detect then you may have to =
manually
select either COM-1 or COM-2 would do.

| It's a special cable - serial on one end, SPIII connection on the other. If
you got it new, such a cable came with the unit. I suppose the really
adventurous might endeavor to make up their own transfer cable out of a
regular serial PC cable by referencing the owner's manual to see which pins
carry the information.

Yes, it's a special serial cable with (1) one end is a regular 9-pin
serial connector, (2) round-connector connects to the GPS
