Author GPS V and routes

When I attempt to use a route that I made using the PC Software on my
GPS V, I get the pop-up stating that the route does not match the maps
and do I want to recalculate. If I respond no, then frequently the GPS
will crash and I have to remove all power (batteries & 12v cable) in
order to reset it. This happens even when I've loaded all of the detail
maps into the GPS from the PC that the route covers. The software in
the GPS V is the latest Version 2.5. Has anyone else seen this kind of
problem and how can it be fixed?

What happens if you respond 'YES'?

I had a similar problem when I missed loading a map that the route just
touched a corner of, although the route was on the Interstate at that point.

If I answer yes, then it re-routes missing the waypoints in between the
beginning and the end. Yesterday I did follow a route and it did not
ask me that question and the route was entirely covered by the detailed
maps in the GPS. So my initial comment about having all of the detailed
maps loaded was not correct. So it seems that if the route is over some
areas that are not on the detailed maps, then the GPS has a problem with
following that route. With only 19 Mbytes of storage space one cannot
load all of the detailed maps that a long route would cover. Anyone
have a way to workaround this kind of problem?

Pat
I think a memory stretcher is the only thing that would truly help. You
might try breaking a long route down into two or three shorter ones,
eliminating maps where you are on a highway or interstate for many miles. My
(expensive) solution to that problem was to buy a SP2610 with a 2GB card.
When I originally bought my GPS-V, the 2610s were selling for 1K+. I found a
one-week period last fall when I was able to buy it for $530 with rebates. I
kept the V for Geocaching, http://www.geocaching.com/

Thanks for your reply. I've been thinking about upgrading to a SP2610
as you suggest, just need to convince my CFO....

You can, of course, just load up the detailed maps for set-off,
intermediate stops, and destination, then rely on the base map for the
straightforward parts of longer routes. However there appears to be no
way of telling "Mapsource" this is your intention if you are
pre-planning a route on your PC - hence the messages.
