When I upgraded from V5 to V6 awhile ago, I was a bit
disappointed that there wasn't really any new information.
I assumed I'd be getting updated map info., but I've never
noticed any. I assume it's because I live in the suburbs, and
am just unlucky (lucky?) enough to not have been a source
of a lot of mapping updates.

This is a really open-ended question, but has anyone else
noticed that there's not much to be gained, on average,
from an update to a single upgrade level? Or was there
supposed to be some marvelous software feature upgrade?
I didn't notice that, either.

Any comments?

Whether or not a single version upgrade is worth it to you depends on
what changes have taken place either in your area, the coverage areas
that you plan on visiting and the types of changes that took place.

For me, v5 to 6 was a no brainer because it fixed some road geometries
that led to odd routing problems in some confusing parts of our city.
Looking at the 6 to 7 upgrade, I don't see some of the big changes
that have happened in the last couple of months, so it may make sense
for me to wait for v8.

The map viewer on Garmin's Web site is invaluable for this. If it's
really close to the upgrade, you can also look at Google Maps or
Yahoo! Maps to get a sense for any routing changes since the source
data is the same.

Between v5 and v6 of City Select, I sent Garmin a couple of map
updates. 1 annoying one was though it showed an exit off a highway to
another road, it wouldn't route off that exit ramp. They resolved all
issues I sent them in the v6 release.

I don't think I sent them any issues I found after v6 was released.
Besides road info, there's also updated POI info if that's important to
you. I noticed a lot of updated POI info right around my house when
viewing the v7 maps online. They appeared to be residential addresses
that folks are probably using for businesses they are running from out
of their homes. But seeing that, for what it's worth, I know there's
updated POI info.
