They are just in another type of store growing exponentially.

The newer type of multi-purpose out-of-the-box gps or gsm/gps phones
are also engineering marvel.

I am not surprised that bigger oem partners like Dell, Amazon,
Newegg....... may join in.

As you said you need ........marketing, a sales channel, support, etc

Compromise the basic functions?

Each function is complete?

Garmin said they were the ultimate travel companion. They had better be
very complete or more complete or ultimately complete.

What counts most is the price as you can witness the process of
wallmartization (hello there? ) throughout the U S.

Well the price decides all. If ( a big if ) Garmin's Ultimate Travel
Companion ( A versatile travel assistant that's approximately the
size of a deck of playing cards) has come down in price comparable to
26xx series, what would an average gps users purchase? Mind you they
are all Garmin products with the same software built in. And Garmin and
Magellan and Tomtom ( not unlike the ppc and gsm/gps) are under huge
price presssure.

What I have pointed out above is simple fact that Pentium 4 is better
and cheapter than Pentium 3, Pentium 2 , Pentium 1, 80386 and
80286...... Pretty plain to see.

>Um, someone who wants an excellent car navigation system?

That someone also wants an Ultimate Travel Companion at a lower cost.

>(Do you work for these guys? You seem a wee bit obsessed with them.)

I wish.
