MapSource 6.9.0 Beta

| Garmin has posted MapSource software version 6.9.0 Beta.
http://www.garmin.com/support/downl...ails.jsp?id=997
Changes made from version 6.8 to 6.9 Beta:
* Change to warn users when the beta will expire. This is done in the
application's title bar, at startup (this can be silenced), and in
the about dialog.
* Change to merge data received from a GPS into the current document.
* Added several map POI icons, including summit, landmark, arena/track,
sports/fitness center, city hall, dealer/auto parts, and bowling
center.
* Added the ability to view the data contained in the current document
in Google Earth, if it is installed.
* Added support for importing LOC files.
* Added the product restrictions dialog, which is shown when you open a
map product that has limitations imposed by license restrictions with
the map-data vendor.
* Improved error reporting during communication with PocketPC devices.
* Changed the route preferences page to use the same road class
avoid/prefer design used in newer GPS's.
* Change to not show detailed map outlines when viewing areas that are
not installed (in a partial install).
* Change to notify the user what invalid data is received from a GPS,
so that the user can correct or remove this data on the GPS.
* Changed the SI unit for speed from "kph" to "km/h".
* Changed the splash window (shown at program startup) to be displayed
on the same monitor that the program will be displayed on, in
multi-monitor configurations.
* Changed the product info dialog to be resizable.
* Changed contour lines with no elevation data to display the string
"Contour Line" instead of "Invalid Elevation".
* Fixed an issue where a user's data selection on the map was not
visible in the user data list.
* Fixed an issue with a track segment selection being displayed after
the track dialog was dismissed.
* Fixed an issue with driving directions for routes that take a series
of unnamed roads.
* Fixed an issue with certain key stroke combinations in the track
dialog.
* Fixed an issue with selecting the wrong track segment on the map when
many track segments are close together.
* Fixed an issue where a selected track point was obscured by the
scroll bar in the track dialog.
* Fixed a drawing artifact that could be caused when displaying a
context menu over user data.
* Fixed an issue where addresses in multi-language products where not
found when city names were in certain languages.
* Fixed an issue with creating a waypoint on certain map features when
the map's language is not the same as the computer's language
setting.

| Mercy MapSource 6.9.0 Beta crashes everytime you click on advance under
route preference. You can not avoid any roads in 6.9.0 Beta. Went back
to 6.8.0.

Anyone know how to get the above to work? I have Google Earth installed [and
working just fine], but I don't see any pull-downs, toolbar-buttons or
right-mouse operations in MS to switch to Earth.
Thanks

Mostly works for me. I live in Maryland. If I ask to show something I'm
looking at on Google Earth, whether running or not, I get sent to North
Africa. Scroll back over to Maryland and my data is there, though.

As I noted, it is not in any of my pull-downs [including the 'View' pull-down]
after installing the beta update.

Toolbar->'View in Google Earth'
Make sure you have a file open, however.

I'm not sure what you mean by advance under route peference. However, you
can avoid roads by Edit->Preferences->Advanced.

Have you forwarded this to the beta team along with detailed
instructions that will let them reproduce the error? This is, after
all, the purpose of a beta test.

| Yes. The "fastest time" option seems to be working OK, but "shortest
distance" gives spurious results for times, although the routes appear
OK on the maps.
| |
| sierra 2005-09-17, 5:48 pm |
| Just done some further delving into the detailed routes, and the
problem is occurring with routes including French autoroutes (no
comment!). The overall routes are OK, apart from those that include a
section on autoroutes - that section of the route is giving spurious
calculations - the "fastest" or "shortest" is not a factor. Not
occurring with Spanish autovias.
Have forwarded relevant files to Garmin.

Weird you mentioned this. I noticed on my last outing (MapSource 6.8
though) that from a via point the time to destination was, as you say, about
as fast as a snail??? This was like 15 miles to destination and arrival
time calculation from the via point was like 55 minutes (!?). However, it
did speed up the "arrival time to destination" as I drove, but it seemed a
little more than odd in the original calculations (I thought the clock was
off or something). Tie calculation errors may be before the 6.9 Beta?

My pc crashes fist time when i click on Google Earth, memory problem ?.
It doesn't work, a lot of problems in tracks, it would want to open all the
tracks.
Garmin must add select one track for save, export , open in Google Earth
(.txt, .gpx , .gdb ect), not always all. In Training Center the same.

on my 2nd computer and it has an error report after clicking on edit
then preferences then routing tab then on advanced. Ater I clicked on
copy to clipboard then ok MapSource crashes. I sent both error reports
to MapSourceBeta@garmin

| I have no problems with Google Earth alone or in union with other programs.
Uhmm, naturally I can cancel manually all the tracks except one.
I think Garmin can implement something of profit and express for the
customer.

It's not just you. I just did the same as you've described and it crashes
when I try to add a "Road Avoidance". However, "Area Avoidance" seems to be
okay.

I just installed 6.9.0 beta today and have had np problems so far. I tried
the sequence you describe and it works ok for me. Running WinXP Pro on a
3.06 GHz machine with 512MB RAM if it makes any difference.
I like the fact that the program now tells me what specific error causes a
transfer from the GPS to the PC to fail, so the errant waypoint or
whatever can be deleted on the GPS. I have been unable to transfer my
waypoints to the PC for months because of this, today I found out which
waypoint was causing the problem and deleted it, the transfer went fine
after that.

| Just noticed the "driving speeds" option on the "routing" preferences
isn't there - maybe this is the cause of strange calculations.
