Can someone help me with some basic questions on the operation of the
Street Pilot 2720. This may not be the correct forum to post this
question on but I can't find an answer in the manual or a place to
post a question on the Garmin site.

I have several destinations that I can not readily identify with an
address or by locating on the map. If I drive to these locations how
can I enter them into my favorites?

Thank you in advance.

If its anything like my 2620, touch the screen on the desired location
and you`ll get a "i" symbol in the top right hand corner of the screen -
clicking on that will let you add it as a waypoint.

On my 2610, if I'm at a place I want to mark as a waypoint so you I go
there again, I just press the "mark" button. I assume the 2720 is similar.

Your suggestions headed me in the right direction, but the 2720 is
somewhat different. The steps are: Drive to the destination; Touch the
destination on the screen; Touch Review Button; Touch the Advanced
Button; Touch Add as favorite Bar.

I haven't worked with waypoints yet.

Thanks for your help, I'll be back when I get hung up again.

I just got my 2720 and I had a 2610. I like the way it was handled in the
2610 much better, i.e. fewer steps. No "waypoints" on the 2720, they are
now called "favorite places" and the steps are as outlined by Stan.

If you touch the screen in the wrong place, you will save the wrong place,
what a bummer. I think they tried to make it simpler by adding steps to
make it more intuitive. It didn't work. All of the buttons now have only
one function. On the 2610, they each had 3 functions. You could tap them
and they did one thing, you could tap them twice and got function 2, or you
could hold them in for a second and you got a third function. I guess that
is complicated but I never had a problem with it. Now everything is
menu/button driven. It takes a while to get used to. When you press the
buttons Stan referred to, they are actually display buttons.

I hope they fix this soon. I also liked my 2610 for this very reason. I
guess I would really like a 2610 with the 2720's display....

I agree 100%. I still haven't figured out how to put in via points. They
were handled nicely in the 2610.

Doesn't look like I'll be "upgrading" any time soon then. I don't care for
"3D" displays anyway.

Ivor, The only thing better about the 2720 is the physical display. I
personally use 2D myself. Also even though it was a bit crowded at times, I
prefer seeing surrounding streets instead of the 2720's two or three streets
ahead..

I keep trying the 3d display thinking I am missing something but I really
like the 2d display better. The resolution of the display hardware is far
better than the 26XXs but I don't see the plus to the 3d display. Maybe it
will be good on a long trip.

I've been looking for a good color for the route lines that has plenty of
contrast and the best I've seen so far is blue. Couldn't even think about
changing that on the 2610. On the other hand, I didn't need to. Hearing
the names of the streets announced is terrific.

The "3D" display is optional. The upgraded display on the 2720 is
heavenly, however. It's about time they got rid of that urine
yellow.

Cheers,
John
