Only had my Vista a few months and it keeps turning off! Batteries new etc
and during a day it will turn itself off many times. Is there a setting I
should be aware of or do I have a faulty unit?

Make sure the batteries are not loose (springs not holding them firmly
against contacts). If it does not turn off when you have it on and
sitting on a table, for example, it is likely a mechanical issue.

Mine sometimes does that and I've never worked out why! I'm sure that the
batteries are nice and tight and it seems to happen when the receiver loses
satellite signals (but not every time and not often enough to be sure). If
the batteries don't seem to be loose and a master reset doesn't clear the
problem, you might try reloading the firmware - my Vista occasionally
develops some very nasty problems (such as turning off every time I try to
start navigating a route) that appear to be due to corrupted firmware - at
least so far they have gone away after I have reinstalled it. If you try
this be sure to fit fully charged batteries so that there is no risk of the
receiver powering off in the middle of the upload. Also you should do a
master reset after reinstalling the firmware.

Good luck

Your batteries are bouncing around and breaking contact... unit goes
OFF! Partly Vista's fault for not designing a failsafe compartment and
partly the batteries... they vary greatly in dimensions. To remedy,
place a thin piece of packing foam over the top of the batteries and
close the case over that. Don't force too hard or you may break the
locking pin hole. Once you "pad" the batteries in place, your problem
should go away.

A hard reset seems to have helped. Cheers!
