After i upgraded to mapsource 6.9.1 I noticed that the GPS tab on the left
side of the interface is missing. in fact, i cannot figure out how to track
my position on the laptop at all anymore, just send and recieve to gps maps,
routes, waypoints, etc.
What gives?
And, even the earlier version, why is there no option to track with
direction up instead of North up only? Or am I missing something?

That feature is now implemented in a separate program, "nRoute":

That functionality has been moved to nRoute
You can now use your laptop as a fullblown talking navigation system!
