Generally speaking, it should, so long as the map segments are small
enough for the Legend's memory. What is the region covered?

Key thing is to find out the map segment size in the area.

Yes, it will. How well depends on exactly which MetroGuide product you
have.
First question is whether you're referring to MetroGuide-USA,
MetroGuide-Europe, or some other MetroGuide. For now I'll assume the
US one.
The version number is also ambiguous due to Garmin's numbering system.
The product sold as MetroGuide-USA, v3 lists its data version as 2.0.
If this is the one you have it dates from about 1999 and is
correspondingly dated. It will work on the Legend but the map regions
are relatively large, almost 8 MB each, so you'll only be able to load
a single region at a time. That might be ok if you happen to live near
the center of a region but is a serious problem if you live near the
border between two or more regions.

OTOH, the product sold as MetroGuide-USA, v4.01 or v4.02 lists its data
version as 3.0 and has significantly smaller regions - only about 1 MB
each although with large variations. That lets you load multiple
regions in the Legend and tailor the covered area to what you need.
That version came out in late summer of 2001 and was the last one based
on TeleAtlas/Etak data (Garmin then switched to NavTeq for their street
maps).

MG 4.01 and 4.02 are pretty unique. They will route in a routing
capable GPSR (60C, SP-III, others) and they were the only Metroguide
versions to do so, I believe.

I still use 4.01 when driving in remote areas, since the maps are more
complete in such areas than any CityNav or CitySel version so far.
