I assume that I can load a combined map set consisting of the US only portion
of CN US v8 and the UK/Ireland portion of CN Europe v8.
The combined size (per MapSource) is 1025.7 MB (US=851.4 MB and UK/Ireland is
174.3 MB)
As far as I can determine, MapSource help is silent on specific information
for loading replacement map sets to a pre-loaded device. The 2720 user manual
is also silent on the actual map storage capacity. It merely states that map
data is pre-loaded.
So, I'm actually assuming a couple of things. These are:
1. The 2720 has sufficient map storage to contained this combined set.
2. The download to device process will clear the map set currently on the
2720 and replace it with the combined set using the normal map download
process.
Are these assumptions correct?
Thanks.

If you still have NT v7 still loaded in 2720 anything you combine in
MapSource will go to the extra section for downloading maps from the
mapsource program up to 750 mb but if you load NT v8 from from the
update disk you will have only around 709 mb left in additional storage
area. Yes you can combine them Carl but don't go over 750 mb and if you
ever do reload NT v8 in it's allocated partition (the NT section of the
2720} reduce the extra mapset area down to 709 mb or NT v8 will run out
of room and you will get an error message after 96% is downloaded from
NT v8 update disk.

Jerry,
I actually have CN US v8 currently loaded.
If I understand you correctly, I should be able to just download the
UK/Ireland portion of CN Europe (totals 174.3 MB) directly to the 2720 using
the MapSource send to device without having to reload CN US v8.
Further question, though. If/when a CN US v9 update is available, I'll need
to load the NT version of that directly from the DVD to the 2720. I'm not
able to find that method (not saying it's not there, just can't find it). I've
gone through a variety of Street Pilots over the years and I've always loaded
the map updates to the PC, unlocked for the devices, created map sets from the
new maps, and used MapSource to send the new set to the Street Pilot. Is there
an alternative setting/data type I'm supposed to use in replacing the
pre-loaded map set with the new one?
Alternatively, does the 2720 so something like check the version against the
one pre-loaded and, if different/higher, replace the pre-loaded set with the
new one? Or does it just automatically reload the preload area when updating
the set already present using the MapSource send method?
As you can see, I'm confused about the process for replacing the pre-loaded
set with a new version when that time comes. As stated in the old thread,
page 37 says to check MapSource help, but, as far as I can find, MapSource
help doesn't describe an alternative method to replace/recover pre-loaded data
other the blue charts.
Thanks, again.
