Author Can topo maps and City Navigator data co-exist?

Hi folks,

It's time to replace my trusty eMap.

Some of the newer Garmin units come with City Navigator preloaded.
These sometimes have an option to add data using an SD card; for
example, custom POIs.

Can the SD card be used to load topos?

Will the topo info and the City navigator info display together?

Thanks, Gary

Yes.

It works the same as it does in the eMap. You can load multiple types
of maps, but the Garmin maps are set up to only have one displayed at a
time. The CityNav. maps have a higher priority so they're displayed by
default, but you can use the menus on the GPS to turn off those maps
and display the Topos instead (or BlueChart, Rec. Lakes, etc.).

I do this frequently on the eMap as well as newer units - use
CitySelect/Navigator to navigate to a trailhead and then switch to
viewing Topo while hiking.

I do the same with my 76CSx. Only thing is, you have to
remember to switch back to CS/N when you get back to the car
or things don't make a whole lot of sense for road
navigation. ;-) (don't ask me how I know that...)

Ah! That explains why topo info never displayed in my eMap..

Yes.

But: If you understand german, have a look at maus.technik.gps,

If not, pls. let me know, I'll send you a translation.

Ok, here we go:

I hope this one was a little bit easier to understand ... ;o)

Don't know if Hans' problem is a general firmware issue of the
Quest II or if it's a "special" one - but you may be aware of
poss. problems when using Topo with a Quest II.

HTH.

BTW: You already know the Quest's 42°C limit? It has been
reported that if it's inner temperature exceeds this magical
value, the GPSR simply switches off. :o/

Kirk,

Thanks for the translation. I conducted three similar experiments
with my eMap. It exhibits a reverse problem. When I load numerous
topos along with Canada map (V4) and the older USA maps, a cue
appears after the installation stating the transfer was unsuccessful -
check to ensure your serial port is active etc. Yet everything works
properly. The problem did not occur on a fourth attempt when a small
number of topos were entered. Did not keep track of numbers.
Curious.

Thanks for the info, Gary
