Author Nuvi 660 FM Transmitter - Can it be turned on in the UK?

I note that Garmin do not sell the FM transmitter feature with the UK
versions of the Nuvi 660 (Only available in US, Canada, Australia and New
Zealand according to Garmin site).

Does anyone know if this feature exists in the UK versions? If so, can it be
turned on? Or is it just omitted altogether and I'd be best to get an iTrip
type device.

Many thanks

Philip

Google search found:

"UK wireless watchdog Ofcom has published draft regulations that, when
added to local law, allow iTrip owners to use their compact FM
transmitters legally in this country.

Ofcom said hopes to have the new regulations, which will be implemented
as a series of additions to the Wireless Telegraphy Exemption
Regulations of 2003, in force early December. First, it has to provide
a four-week consultation period to allow stakeholders and others to
comment on the proposed regulations."

You can buy a fm xmitter for around $10 or so - or pay up $50

David - whose $10 (well $9.95 actually) xmitter works like a charm
