Ok - I didn't even think of this until I realized how much effect tree
cover has on GPS Reception.
Would mounting an Amplified GPS Anttena or the GPS18 on the inside of a
plastic snowmobile's windshiled reduce reception at all?
I can mount it on the out side but there branches and such would be a
factor. (Who Me? I Never go off the tail!:)
Thanks

A clear plastic (no metalized layer) windshield should not be of much or
any effect. But the GPS18 will work best when it is mounted
horizontally and your windshield is probably more like vertical.

The hood or even somewhere on the dash or behind you may be a better
place. On my motorcycle I wrapped the cabled GPS receiver (similar to
the GPS18) in a layer of foam rubber and kept it in the tail light
housing. On another bike I kept in in a tank bag. There was no effect
at all on reception with either of those.

Or are you climbing trees with the snowmobile?

If so disregard my last. :> )

I don't know about the GPS18 but the Nuvi works fine in the glove box of my
scooter which is made of plastic, even with the door completely closed. I
don't think I've ever had enough cover from anything to block out the signal
although, recently I've lost reception in the middle of the ocean on a
cruise ship just north of Cuba & it couldn't lock on even with no cover
overhead.

Hi,
I have had my GPS II plus (older model) on a mount just sitting on the
snow mobile dash under the windsheild and it worked fine.
One problem that I had was while breaking trail the windshield being
warm would gather snow and the GPS would lose lock until the snow
melted off.
