problems with streetpilot c550

| Hi all. Based on good reveiws, I just bougth the c550. First one died
first time I powered it down and wouldn't power up, so Best Buy
exchanged. Second one worked for a while but now is acting very odd.
When you power it on you get the Agree screen and the where to menu
but after that it hardly works. the screen is unresponsive, button
presses don't do anything, if you can get it to navigate the stutters
and hangs. The screen presses appear in the wrong places and generally
don't work... odd thing is after being on hour it will sometimes just
start working normally.
I heard it takes a day or so for it to "settle" in to the current
locale, but this is unusable. Is this unit defective too?
I have tried the following:
1) Updated to most recent OS, bluetooth stack and traffic FM module via
the web-update
2) Have reset the device numerous times (both with the power button and
reset button)
3) Recalibrated the screen three times...this doesn't seem to work as
it should...sometime you "press dot" and it doesn't do anything, then
will jump to 5 different press dots at the same time. Last time I did
it it seemed to work okay.
I'm about to just say forget it and return this thing for a different
brand. Garmin tech support is closed weekends. Any thoughts are
appreciated.

When I first received my C330, I though mine was broke, but it took what
seemed like forever for it to locate locally. I finally plugged it into
my car in the driveway and let it sit on the dash for a couple of hours or
so to settle in. All worked fine after that.
Good luck,

| Okay, I left it in the car on for 2 hours and, yes, it worked fine.
Bummer is that once I shut it off for the afternoon then went back to
use it it didn't work again. Doesn't seem like it should have to be on
for 2 hours to work.

Does look like you have a problem with it. It should locate itself fairly
quickly after the intial locating. I would send it back for repair or
replacement.

Try driving your car for a day or two with the Streetpilot off. The
batteries may need to be properly charged.
