| I just go a Vista Csx and love its small size. Very handy to carry around.
BUT. I just read more on the 60 CSX and am thinking of changing my unit.
Mostly
because of the new chip. I would like to have the faster start times and
better reception.
I mostly use it for weekend trips but also walking around,
How much bigger is the 60 vs. the vista.
Any other major differences
Any opinions,
Thank You
Joe

The 60CSx is quite a handful, but it is sturdy en waterproof.
Its fixes its position in a jiffy. The rerec tion is very good. Is even
get a fix in a concrete house.
I love this machine.

Vista Cx/CSx = 2.2" W x 4.2" H x 1.2" D
GPSMAP 60 Cx/CSx = 2.4" W x 6.1" H x 1.3" D
GPSMAP 76 Cx/CSx = 2.7" W x 6.2" H x 1.2" D
All three of those have the same software and features.
Some differences and pros and cons mentioned here in the past:
60 is display over buttons, 76 is buttons over display
76 "props up and leans against something" better because of the more
rectangular case.
I often use the 76 in a map case on a motorcycle, the more rectangular
shape and button location works better for me there than the shape of
the 60 would.
Batteries have to be removed from 60 and a card holder messed with to
change microSD card. On 76, microSD card pops out quickly without
removing batteries.
Both 60 and 76 series have battery cases that can be a little bit snug
with some brands or types of AA cells. There have been some problems
with broken battery contacts. Solution is to insert and remove them
level and gently.
Both are equally water resistant.
The 76 floats, the 60 does not.
The 60 is very close to neutral buoyancy, it will sink slowly and you'll
have some time to think about jumping in the water to save it. It can
be made to not sink fairly easily.
The 76 is "slicker" in the hand, the 60 sticks to the hand better with
it rubber armored case. I have my 76Cx in a Gilsson neoprene case with
a clear window over the display. That makes it not slick and protects
the case and display.
Both models come with a lanyard (a wrist strap, more or less).
The 60 also comes with a belt clip.
The 60 can be hung though an opening in the case next to the antenna
near the top of the case, that puts it more or less upright.
The 76's lanyard loop is on the bottom of the case and it would hang
upside down if the lanyard was used for that.
I used Magellan Meridians (shaped much like the 60 series) for years but
bought a 76Cx. After trying both styles, I like the 76's buttons over
display style equally as well as I like the buttons under display style.
There are situations where either one of the two may be better than
the other. Only solution for that is to buy one of each. :> )
The accessories and performance seems to be the same with both of them.
Check for rebates, there is a $50 one on the 60Cx/CSx for $50 through
the end of the year. A $100 rebate on the 76Cx earlier this year was
the main reason that I bought it. I have no regrets.

I definitely prefer the display over the buttons, then my thumb isn't
getting in the way of the screen as I'm pressing the buttons.

I just attach my 60CSX using Garmins excellent handlebar holder, I can
look and use it that way too.

I take my microSD card out for a walk about as often as I take the
memory from my laptop or desktop computer out.

With my natural grip, and the GPS balanced resting on my fingers, my
thumb is not in the way using the buttons. Have you tried a 76? I'm
not arguing, just wondering. I have average sized hands.

Is that on a bike or motorcycle? The vibration in the GPS with
handlebar mounts is way too high on the two motorcycles I've owned.
Yes, they were American made motorcycles, and do I know there are other
motorcycles that vibrate less. I like the one I have.
And there are other concerns too. The tank bag is quickly and easily
removed from the bike, leaving little if anything that looks like it
needs to be stolen.
And I can see and use the GPS in the map case, it is clear and I can
push the buttons through the plastic. The GPS is about 4 inches from
the speedometer, glancing down at the GPS is much like glancing down at
the speedo.

You're being facetious. It takes two 1 Gb cards to load CN8 detail for
a cross country trip. I also do some boat deliveries and use BlueNav.
And I mess around on ATV's and on foot in the woods and use Topo USA. I
don't keep everything on one card. It's my choice, others might do the
same.
They OP asked for opinions. Those were mine.

I wouldn't change if you are happy with the Vista, but if money is no
object.......
I've just switched from an eTrex Venture to a GPSMAP60, and I'm really
glad I did. The operation is much more intuitive (for me anyway) and
practical. I hated the clickstick and it failed several times, as did
the cable connecting the screen to the circuit board.
I do find the screen text of the 60 harder to read than the Venture as
the gray scale seems to have less contrast with the maps showing -
dark gray on light gray is hard, but that shouldn't be a problem with
the CSX.
But otherwise, it's not worth throwing away the Vista, unless you can
give it to a friend.
The 60 is a bit bigger but that's mainly due to the bigger antenna.
