City Select - Detailed Maps
|
|
|
| I cannot seem to get access to detailed maps on my PDA. Base map shows
up and the GPS tracks appropriately, but this thing is useless without
detailed maps. I've written to Garmin tech support a week ago, but no
answer yet. The detailed maps DO show up on my desktop computer, and
seem to download to the PDA just fine. I've looked at help files and
online Garmin support to no avail.
They are installed on a SD card in my PDA. Under MAP SETUP - DETAILED
MAPS, nothing shows. Under MAP SETUP - DELETE, they show up. The
UNLOCK function of Mapsource seems to work with no error messages
(several tries).
PDA is a HP 4700 - 1 Gig SD card
GPS is a Garmin 10
City Select 6.02
Any suggestions of things to try?
Thanks!
Rich

City Select 6.02 was the version that came with the iQue 3600. That was
a Palm OS PDA.
The HP 4700 had Windows Mobile SE for an OS.
I don't think thee mapping you have was intended to work on that PDA.
Did you ever have it working?

Interesting...
To directly answer your question; No, I purchased the PDA, GPS unit, and
several pieces of software, used. I bought it primarily for aviation
use (Anywhere Map software and XM weather). The City Select was
expected to be a 'bonus' use... getting around in a strange city once
we've flown there. I'm in the process of getting it to work for the
first time.
However,
The software does SEEM to work! I can access Base Maps and the
geo-referencing appears correct. It just doesn't access my detailed
maps, which I have loaded to the SD card (to preserve precious main
memory). If it didn't work with Windows SE, I wouldn't think ANYTHING
would work at all.
Thanks for the reply,
Rich

Give Garmin a call. Their technical support is great.

You may need to connect your pda via Bluetooth to the GPS10 before the
detailed maps can be viewed for the first time. I seem to recall having the
same problem with my GPS10 and Axim50v. Once I synced the two together, the
maps were available. After that, I did not need the GPS10 to be connected to
view the detailed maps

The unlock is based on the GPS serial number. Therefore the GPS must
be accessed.
I would recommend the OP to check the Garmin web site for software
updates for the GPS10. This may improve things as well.
