Hi there.
I'm trying to figure out how to use Garmin 18 with my Toshiba e550g Pocket
PC 2002. I have a usb port in PPC's docking station, but when I plug GPS in
it doesn't recognise it (obviously) and asking for device name.
Garmin doesn't have Pocket PC drivers for this GPS. I tried driver pharos is
using (Prolific or sometihng), but coudn't get that to work since I don't
know what Prolific device name would be.

Any help would be appriciated. I love this Garmin GPS, but need to use it
with PPC.

Thanks.

Sorry, forgot to mention - Garmin DOES NOT make PPC drivers for this GPS
unit.

That's why I'm here, trying to figure out if I can get it to work.

Thanks.

Try this (watch the wrap)

http://franson.com/gpsgate/guide.as...rt
ed_200

&platform=ppc

I don't think this is what I'm looing for. This software lets other GPS
software use Garmin USB protocol.
I'll look further into this, but I think I need a PPC driver anyway. Thanks

ICBW but I think GPSGate effectively does away with the need for drivers
to be installed, and converts the non-standard Garmin data strings into
something non-Garmin apps can use via a fake serial port.

It looks like 2.x is out for the PPC on request now...

What is it you're trying to achieve then ? - using Garmin software on
the PPC, or the GPS receiver with non-Garmin software ?

Well, first of all I'm trying to get Pocket PC 2002 recognize garmin gps
receiver. After receiver is recognized I'll look through all ppc gps
programs I have/can get to see which ones will work with Garmin USB.

I know Garmin has recently released a software, similar to GPS gate, which
converts USB data into NMEI protocol (or something like that). This software
would allow the use of programs like iGuidance with Garmin USB. The only
problem, again is that this new software will work only with PC Windows, not
PPC. I hope that gpsGate will come to rescue at this point (if not, maybe
they will later).

But for now, all I want is to have this GPS receiver be recognized by Pocket
PC 2002 operating system.

Thanks
