I am about to buy this model and I find out on the Garmin web site that its
been discontinued.
Does anyone know why they would discontinue this model. If you are using it,
tell me about the
XM traffic capability...any issues...any problems likes and dislikes.

Firebird:

I always upgrade to the best Garmin GPS available and my latest is an
SP2730. In short: it works great, including the XM traffic and weather
features. My guess is that they replaced it with the SP2820, which is
almost identical (+ Bluetooth).

I only have complaints about two nagging details:

The cigarette lighter adapter has always given me trouble, as it keeps
on losing connectivity and generating reboots, sometimes when I hit the
tiniest pothole. My first adapter cable failed in one end and the other
in the opposite. This problem has been eliminated in the
battery-powered n=FCbi family.

The other problem is keeping the StreetPilot in place, because it is so
heavy. The beanbag doesn't work well, and the unit went flying and
getting banged hard. I am glad it is sturdy. I tried with the so-called
"permanent" disks but they kept on getting unattached from my car's
dashboard which is a little curved. Once again, the n=FCbi provides a
really good solution: not only is the adhesive better, but the unit is
much lighter. I am very impressed at the n=FCbi's physical design, I
think Garmin engineering deserves an award. The unit is so easy to take
in and out, and yet it stays firm.

The n=FCbi software is another story, though. It's girlie. I wish they
made a unit with the n=FCbi body and StreetPilot software.

I've never had either of these problems.

I agree the power cord is crap; the design on the back of the unit does
not lock it into place and will slide loose. I always use the bean
bag mount without any issues. I also had trouble with the 1st power
cord that had a short in it but it was replaced by Garmin.

My power cord has a lot of usage (1 year+ on the road, and I take it in
and out several times a day). I am refering to the GPS end, not the
cigarette. If I push it all the way in, it loses connectivity, which
will obviously happen in the other direction too; so it has a critical
middle position. Sometimes it will stay in place and not give any
trouble for days and some other times it will be flaky. Perhaps the
temperature is a factor. Anyway, I decided to order a new one, but it
turns out that you cannot. It has a price, but no button to place the
order.

It did not work for me at first. I was able to add it to my
shopping cart after I enabled cookies.

I can see some buttons and I have cookies enabled. This is what the
page says:

"Please note that not all Garmin accessories are available for online
purchase. If you would like to purchase an accessory that does not have
a "Add to cart" button beside it, please e-mail websales@garmin.com
or call 1-800-800-1020 for availability."
