Is there any appreciable difference between rechargeable batteries for
the 60CSX, if so which are best. I should add that they need to be
obtainable in the UK, also can anyone recommend a good compact charger
for them?

For rechargeables, you should use NIMH and not NiCAD.

Each manufacturer may have a range of capacities measusred in mAH or AH(as
in car batteries). Price increases with mAH.

The larger the mAH the longer the use between recharges, but it also takes
longer to recharge them.

I suggest Ansmann AA 2700maH. The also make a range of chargers, which are
microprocessor controlled. They include fast chargers which are fan cooled
and monitored. There are some specifically for AA/AAA and usually include 4
AA batteries. I have been using their 1800 and 2500mAH AA in my 60CSx, but
they have since brought out the 2700. I use one of their fast chargers,
although it is said fast chargers can reduce the life( number of recharges)
of the batteries?

Maplin in the UK have some new fast AA/AA chargers which are rebranded
Ansmann's at an attractive price.

From time to time, Aldi and Lidl sell slightly lower capacity NiMH and also
chargers at attractive prices, but I can't comment on their quality.

P.S.

The Ansmann fast charger I use also has an adaptor for use from a car cigar
lighter.

I am suspicous of fast chargers.

They heat up the cells which causes a voltage rise which prematurely
terminates charging.

I have had problems with one charger damaging cells, subsequently using
a slower charger restored them.

I have several sets of cells of different capacities. My latest set
(2700mah) which came with a Maplin (UK) charger run for a shorter time
than some 2500mah's.
