Can one update "Preloaded maps for all of North America or Europe "?

Looking at buying either the Nuvi 350 or Street Pilot C550...I notice both
say "Preloaded maps for all of North America or Europe ". Does this mean
that one can not upgrade the maps at a later point with a newer version of
City Select, say?

I don't know how they intend to handle that, but obviously there has to
be some plan for this.
