Given that Garmin seem to have discontinued the majority (all?) of the
non-NT units, will they continue to supply upgrades to the "normal" CN
maps?

The CN and CN NT pages say the only difference in the two is a
difference in the compression technology.

There are a lot of the newer models that can use either CN or CN NT, and
there are still quite a few not that old models that can use only CN,
and there are also some newer models that can use only CN NT.

So with those variations and with a large number of people out there
with both kinds of receivers, I'd be surprised to see CN (non NT)
discontinued any time soon.

I might be sorry I said that.

I noticed the other day that when you look at compatibility for CN and
CNNT that the GPS models listed were not the same for both. I thought
that meant the ones not listed were not compatible but that may just be
errors on the web page.

Here are some examples I noticed here the other day:

http://www.garmin.com/cartography/m...ce/compatCB.jsp

76Cx is CN and CNNT compatible
2610 is CN only
Zumo is CNNT only

now I noticed that the 2820 is not listed as compatible with either
version but I know it ships with CNNT. So the table might not be a
reliable indication for all models.

I've not done an exhaustive analysis and may have jumped to a conclusion.

Their compatibility table was always shite - it said CS:EU was not
compatible with a 2610 which is bollocks.

Update on above CN EU NT ver 9 release 1-Sep-06 shipping 12-Dec-06.

No sign of CN EU ver 9!
