Can't erase free map from my gpsmap 96
|

| I just got a GPSmap 96. I uploaded a free map from
http://mapcenter.cgpsmapper.com/
into the unit using Sendmap 20 (cgpsmapper.com).
Now, I'd like to remove that map from my unit, but I can't figure out
how to do it. None of the programs I try with can do it, and there's no
delete function in the unit itself.
Any solutions? Is there some way to reset the GPSmap 96 and clear out
the memory? I don't mind erasing my waypoints and settings at the same
time.
Thanks!

Try using Sendmap to load no map, if that is an
option. That will erase the map memory in the unit.
Can be done with Mapsource, but I've not used Sendmap.

You cannot erase maps from a Garmin GPSr. You can only replace them with
something else. As has been suggested, try sending "nothing", either with
Sendmap or MapSource.

| Thanks for the suggestion!
How do I send nothing from MapSource? When I try, it tells me that I
need to select a map first.

Yes, the older versions would let you send a blank set of maps.
Easiest thing to do now is just pick some map region that doesn't have
much detail in it. You can also turn off display of the maps. Why do
you feel you need to get rid of the free 'MapCenter' map you have
loaded now? Just turn off the display of it and it's just as if it
isn't there at all.
