Both MGCan and TopoCan maps can be loaded simultaneously into my Legend
Cx. However TopoCan is not normally transparent. In other words the
contour lines are invisible unless one digs through the map setup menus
to disable the offending MG map.

The solution is simply to make the topo maps transparent. The simplest
tool for the job has got to be IMGTransparent by Peter Dekode. It can be
found at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/mapdekode/files/

To use it load all the TopoCanada img file into the program, select
'load all', press the 'make transparent' button, wait 30 sec and it's
done. The process is reversible.

Then go back to MapSource, select the desired maps and upload them to
your GPSr as you would normally. In the GPSr all contour lines and other
topo information is visible. Of course MGCan's 'find' and autorouting is
unaffected. Map refreshes don't seem to be much slower than using
TopoCan alone.

For a stress test I've been able to load MGCan for the whole country
below 60N plus TopoCan for the 4 western provinces into a 1GB card and
it all works a charm.

Disclaimer
MGCan and TopoCan both support autorouting. I don't know if autorouting
would continue to function if one of the map sets was not autoroutable.
