Author GPSMap 60CSx Have SIRF Chipset?

I just bought two new GPSrs today and the box for the 76CSx describes
the SIRF chipset in a number of places, but the 60CSx does not make any
mention of it on the box at all.

I was wondering if maybe I have received an older model 60... the
Garmin web site does not seem to say, and messages on here make many
mentions of the 60CSx and SIRF, so I'm confused.

And I can't turn it on 'cause it's a Christmas present so technically,
I don't have it yet.

From what I've read the 60CSx looks identical to the older
60 but it has the Sirf star III receiver chip.

If it has the microSD card then you're probably ok, if not
it's probably an imposter.

What's this "And I can't turn it on 'cause it's a Christmas
present so..." crap? Hell, it's gonna take you two weeks to
read the manual, play with it and figure out how to use it
efficiently anyhow so that's technically almost New Years! ;-D

The 60csx and 76csx are very similar with only some physical design
differences (case size, shape, button placement, operation of card
slot). Both use the SiRF III chips.

I've been using a 60C for about two years so it won't take me 10
minutes to get used to the compass, barometric altimeter or micro sd
memory.

Open the battery compartment and see if there is a microSD card holder
in there. If that is there is should be at least a 60Cx, I don't know
how to tell a Cx from a Cx without powering it up and looking at the
menus.

ah, I must have missed that part. But you already know what
you got so why wait? Your call though obviously.

On the Garmin Web site page for the 60CSx:

"New high-sensitivity WAAS-capable GPS receiver by SiRF"

http://www.garmin.com/products/gpsmap60csx/

If there's a picture of your GPSR on the box, you can easily tell what
you have, since it will have "Garmin 60CSx" right above the LCD. Even
easier if you've actually opened the box before Christmas :-)

Thanks all; it's certainly a CSx, so if all the CSxs are SiRF units,
then I'm happy.

If your help is limited to "correcting" my posts by moving the replies
to where you think they should be, I think I can get along fairly well,
thanks very much.
