| Since Garmin support keeps banker's hours, perhaps someone might be
able to help.
I bought City Navigaor V8 and installed it. I have an unlock code from
the Garminsite, but when I go through the process, the status bar
still says Map Detail Locked. If I restart the wizard and view my
installed unlock codes it says unknown. If I try to retrieve from
Garmin I gete a message there is a newer version and to download. I go
through the download process and get a Win Zip Command line error.
I realize you folks may not be able to help, but it feels good just
putting posting this.
Thanks,

You got the right feeling that Garmin users can't help you but Garmin
employee does. I am still using older Garmin with older City Navigator
v4.01, but I heard quite afew people having problem with Garmin's =
protection
system.
And it's one of the reasons why I haven't upgraded neither hardware
(Hmmm.. already own 3 units <g> ) nor software cuz the more I support =
Garmin
the more I feel being ripped off. I mean=20
1. I already spent nearly $3K on 3 Garmins and Datacards etc..
2. And Garmin Data Map is kinda useless without Garmin GPS (unless few =
may
use on computer?), so I don't why why Garmin has to put a harmer on =
Garmin
customers for (????).
$75 for the upgrade (much cheaper than $150 or $125 before) that I have =
no
problem getting the upgrade, but I really don't feel good to support the
company doesn't seem to appreciate our supports (or business). I usually
travel around 2-3 near by states so I rarely need to transfer newer map =
data
to datacard, and few times I had to reinstall my system I had to go =
through
the activation over.
Last time (just few months ago) I can't remember the Login & Password, =
and
I thought that was the end of my Garmin SP-III (cuz it will be a pice of
expensive junk) but lucky that Garmin user's database still working and I
was able to get the information from them. And it was lucky that I =
haven't
changed my email else I would be an angry Garmin user <bg>

I upgraded my Nuvi 350 yesterday and had very similar results. After
about the 6th try I selected get unlock code from Garmin. When I did
that the unlock was succesful.
I never got the Garmin code I downloaded from Garmin to work. I think
the option to retrive the code from Garmin only appeared after several
attempts to unlock the software. BTW the update took 39 minutes when I
updated my Nuvi.

Try downloading the upgrade manually from
http://www.garmin.com/support/mappingsw.jsp
I was getting the same error and that worked for me.
