Author Nuvi 360 came with unlock code, why didn't 76csx?

I'm in the process of updating my GPS equipment. I'm replacing a 2 year old
StreetPilot 2620 (with CN NA v. 8). I plan to sell the 2620 on eBay... it's
in mint condition, and I just updated it to CNNA version 8 about a month
ago, which puts it ahead of the other ones I see on eBay, which are all
running version 6 or 7.

The new devices are a 76csx (for hiking) and a Nuvi 360 (for driving--I'm
addicted to voice navigation).

In the box with the Nuvi 360 there was an orange piece of paper that
contains a registration & unlock code. No CDs or DVDs came with it... so
what are the registration and unlock codes for?

There was no piece of paper like that with the 76csx. Should there have
been?

All this now makes me wonder. I have CN NA 8 (full version, not the upgrade)
on order from Garmin. I've never had a PC version of CN before, so I'm kind
of flying blind. I'm buying it to (hopefully) upload CN NA 8 maps to the
76csx (after I add a 2GB microSD to it).

Am I going to receive the CN NA 8 only to discover that I can't put it onto
the 76csx? Garmin's web site listed it as a compatible device for this
software. But all this "unlock code" crap has me worried. I sure as hell
don't want to have to pay yet again.

It's too bad their products are so good. All of this unlock code crap just
confuses the hell out of me.

Try selling it to me, I've been looking for a deal on one of those.

Maybe we can do some horse trading, that's a lot more fun. :> )

Probably for the preloaded maps. You don't need the CD because they
are preloaded, but if you want to upgrade, you'll need the unlock code.

No, because no map is included.

Full version should install fine.

The unlock code is included with the map CD, not the device.

Hi, Jack,

Thanks for all your expertise/help in the Garmin forum. Arms-length neophyte
GPS users like me can use all the help we can get.

I'm planning to take the Nuvi 360 on a two-week trip to Puerto Rico to see
how it performs. Since it and the 2620 both have CN NA version 8, the only
difference will be the different feature sets of the two devices. I've
already traveled a lot with the 2620, so this trip will give me a chance to
see if there's anything about the 2620 that I miss and can't live without.

When I get back, I'll decide then whether to return the Nuvi 360 to Costco,
or to keep it and sell the 2620. Each has features/advantages that the other
doesn't have. Or, I might return the Nuvi 360, *and* sell the 2620, and get
something else entirely that has the features of both (assuming such a
creature exists).

Either way, I'd say there's a 90% chance that I'm going to sell the 2620.
I'll see how comparable units are doing on eBay when I get back from my
trip, later in January, then email you and see whether horse trading would
be mutually satisfactory.

Cheers,
