Author How Long to Lock on Nuvi?

I love my new Nuvi but if I set it to "View Map" and drive off, it
takes forever to lock on.

It seems to do better when left on the "Menu" page.
It does however, get 5 bars and work perfectly once "lock" happens.

It will even lock on inside my house, but seems to take a while to get
the birds.

How long should it take on a cold start and should it make a
difference whether or not you are in motion?

TIA

I'm having the same problem since I upgraded the software. Version 2.4
worked just fine with almost immediate lock. I then upgraded to 2.7 and
it now takes about three minutes from a cold start. A warm start takes
70 seconds.

I also have to reset it every once in a while when I can't acquire lock
on at all.

I just found out that Ver. 2.9 came out two days ago. I will try that
to see if things improve and will let you know..

Sitting here on the second floor of my house during a pretty heavy
snowstorm, I turned on my nuvi 350 (v. 2.9) and found that it takes
almost 10 seconds to the legal disclaimer screen and 37 secs to get a
lock to 4-5 satellites.

I bet the lock time depends on many circumstances, such as the location
and strength of the satellites, local terrain, weather, time of
day--and maybe the unit. I did have a few problems getting a lock when
driving from a huge garage into narrow streets of a big city--it was
more than a mile, past several tough complex intersections, which I
fortunately knew well, when I finally got a lock. I guess it's better
to start nuvi in a stationary position, with a good view of the sky :-)
