No, this is not a Celebrity Death Match; I'm just trying to decide if the
extra cost is worth it. This is going to be my first GPS and the primary use
is geocaching with my family on weekends. I've narrowed my choice to these
two units based on capabilities, size and availability in my area. While the
Vista is at the upper end of my budget, it is still a consideration. Since I
have a hand held compass (analog compass <g> ), I'm wondering just how useful
the electronic compass offered by the Vista is. I like the idea of having
more memory to load more maps into, but is this feature truly useful.

Has anyone bought the Vista after owning a Legend? What did you think of the
change?

I bought a Legend, decided that the extra memory of the Vista was
worth the extra and replaced the Legend. I haven't regretted it.

I had the same thoughts. In fact I use my GPS mainly for geocaching and
that's when the compass is most useful. Most GPS need you to be moving in
order to turn the arrow at the cache. With the vista you stop and the
compass turns on and points directly at the cache. I've been out with folk
without compasses and its a different game. They walk around slowly closing
in and I stop, look at the arrow and the distance and find the cache!

Be aware there are newer versions the vista and legend being released with
expandable memory card slots.
