| Hi,
I'm a satisfied user of a yellow eTrex, which I use solely for
recording tracklogs (for projects like www.openstreetmap.org).
I'm about to go off an a four-day cycling break. The eTrex's 1500-point
memory will fill up in one day, and I don't particularly want to cart a
laptop around to download it every evening. So I'm thinking of buying a
Geko 201 for its 10,000-point memory.
Can anyone tell me how the Geko records tracklog points? The eTrex is
very efficient - it records more frequently when going round corners.
If the Geko's the same then great - but if it records (say) at a fixed
interval of every n seconds, I'd guess it will fill up quickly.
Thanks in advance for any help!
cheers
Richard

| Richard,
The Geko 201 does have an "auto" setting for tracklog recording, but I do
not use it much. I prefer to have a known amount of recording time. I
generally use 20 second intervals, and for *my* purposes that gives me all
the accuracy I want for cycling, hiking or auto and Jeep travel. The 20
second interval is enough to give about 55.5 hours of tracking on the 201,
so you could go to some lower number for your 4 day bike ride (unless of
course you are on a real bust your hump ride).

Even if I did try to bust my hump I suspect there'd be a plaintive cry
of "slow down!" from my wife behind me. :)
Anyway, really useful answer - thanks very much.
