I am looking for a good GPS/NAV system to use mostly for on-road directions.
My '97 car with an OLD built-in nav system was totalled and I miss the
ability to get directions when I need it. I want to pay under $500 so the
Nuvi etc are not in play, but I have been reading many reviews and the
Quest (not Quest 2) and the C320 seem to be my best bets. Any thoughts or
comments?

I am looking for a bright, sharp screen. I will mostly use it in my home
state of NC but also want a capability to bring it on the road anywhere in
the US with rental cars, etc.

One other feature I would like but is not necessary is the possibility of
adding a map of a large lake here (39mi long) and using it (infrequently) on
a boat. doesnt have to be waterproof, just capable of adding a marine map.

I am new to this and find the Garmin website very difficult to get
comparisons or easy answers. so your opinions are most welcome. and THANKS.

I'm very happy with my Quest. I pack it in my carry on and use it in
rental cars.

The memory can hold quite a few states, and it is real easy to move
sections in or out using the software.

Actually, my memory is not even half full and I've got most of the West
Coast and Arizona loaded.
