Garmin C340 questions - about to buy one - users chime in if possible....

| Wife loves the idea of getting a C340 mainly for the street announce,
smaller yet still viewable screen, touch screen, everything about it she
says,
we almost bought an I5 but seeing it in person she is afraid the screen will
be TOO small and she likes the touch screen and voice announce of street
names...so the C340 is on her wish list. Have not bought it yet, searched
around and found best pricing around the $540 range so far..just havent
pulled the trigger yet....
We move alot and are ALWAYS finding ourselves lost, heck finding way HOME
from wherever we are alone is worth the cost of the gps all together.
But I have a few quick questions about gps that go a bit deeper that I am
hoping you guys/gals can help me answer.
Remember these are coming from someone who has never used a gps... but I am
hoping even in the most basic functions that it will be a great addition to
the car...
First off, do I have to buy map updates for this every year and how much are
they for the C340? Also with map updates does that also include points of
interest (new resturants, gas stations, omitting old ones that have closed
etc).
I believe they would be called POI points of interest, but say we are in
route to my moms in Indiana from Michigan, about a 4 hour drive for us, and
we decide we need to hit a bank one atm, or outback steakhouse sounds good,
or whatever we want to stop at a walgreens and get medicine or find the next
speedway gas station so we can fill up and get speedway rewards...
How in depth is the C340 or any gps at giving us that type of information
and will it only offer local places to get food or gas or will it actually
show us the closest outback is 32 miles and how to get there etc etc
How many custom addresses can I enter into this C340, say 10 places we go
often or how many in general???? I think the find my way home feature is
amazing especially since we move alot and my wife sells homes, so she is
always on the road always in new areas and always trying to find her way
home from that area LOL
Just trying to get a realistic idea of what else this gps can do for us in
terms of the questions above, I saw that model takes a SD flash card, what
would I put into the flash card since I thought the maps were all already
installed (or is it in the flash that you enter your custom addresses like
home, doctor, school, hospital, outback, speedway etc).
Thanks for any help on this
Bill :)

| Bill, I am a bit surprised that nobody has answered much here yet. I
hope I'm not too late...
I love my C330. It works great, very relaible. The screen could be a
bit brighter in sun, but that has not been a problem. The audio is
great, and I find the directions very easy to follow. To try to answer
your questions:
- I have heard that the map updates come out about once a year, and
should be about $50 - I believe the updates include both maps and
POIs.
- The POIs are great. Yes, it will find that Outback that far away -
all you have to do is type in Outback instead of using one of the more
general food categories. I have gone on a couple of trips with mine,
and it was absolutely great getting gas, food, tourist info, etc.
- I am not sure about the number of Favorites, but its quite a few. I
would have to grab the documentation to check - but its about 8 or so
per screen, and quite a few screens. Let's say perhaps 50?
- I am not sure what the SD socket is for, but I just ignore mine. Any
software updates, etc. are done via the USB connection.
Hope you enjoy it.
