Author Question: Tracks to trail

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to convert several tracks to a
trail (track)?

I have several individual tracks recorded over several weeks that
almost completely maps out a series of trails. How can I convert these
into a single track representing the network of trails?

Some challenges:
Not all tracks along the exact same trail align perfectly, need some
averaging by distance to form one track.
Some tracks overlap, need to reduce these to a single track.
Would like to keep altitude information.

Assumption: You are using Garmin Mapsource

Open a new window of Mapsource.

COPY each track to the track table.

Double click on the first track.

Check the box marked "Center map...

Highlight one of the track legs and run the curser up and down to watch
a blue line show your progress.

Now pick the next track that you want to add to the first. Determine
which end of the track you want to mate up with the first track.
Invert the second track if necessary.

Highlight the second track details, copy and past the second onto the
bottom of the first track table. It will automatically make a
connection.
