Garmin 76CS in Europe
|

| I'm taking my Garmin 76CS to Europe in a couple months. I'll be touring
several countries and would like to use the GPS. I don't want to spend
$400.00 for CitySelect Europe for a 3 week trip. Is the Metro Guide a
reasonable alternative?
Is anyone aware of any online mapping sites that provide lat/lon info for
address searches in Europe? If I can't get a reasonable deal on mapping
software, I'd love to be able to log onto the net and pull a lat/lon for a
specific address in Germany or Italy. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Roy

Metroguide Europe v6 is set up to autoroute only on a PC only. However
if you load maps into your 76CS using Sendmap instead, the maps will
autoroute on the 76CS(http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mdipol/img2gps/).
It is a much more time consuming process though than loading maps
through Mapsource.

| Thanks for the reply. Are you saying that I would download maps, off of the
Metroguide CDs, onto the 76CS using Sendmap? Or are the maps from some
other source?

You can download any maps designed for use with Garmin units. Free maps
are available at http://mapcenter.cgpsmapper.com/, but with most, the
files needed to install them so that they can be read with Mapsource on
your computer are not included. Such maps can only be downloaded
directly into your GPSr using Sendmap. Most of these free maps will not
autoroute.
1. Install Mapsource with Metroguide European maps on your computer.
2. In Metroguide, select all the maps which you wish to load, but don't
load them. You need only to see the list of map names.
3. Open SendMap, then load the folder where the img files for the
European maps reside on your computer. (C:\Program Files\Garmin\EUROMG6
is where my Metroguide 6 maps reside.)
4. Sort the resultant list by map name, then check off the names of the
maps you want to load.
