legend c not starting up properly

hello all, I have a legend c and I was wondering if there is a certain
way to start this unit up or is mine defective... when I start it ,
there is no welcome screen or menu, instead its just a grey screen....I
can see a hint of map under the grey but dont know how to get to it, it
did come on once but never again, is there something I am doing
wrong...any help would be greatly appreciated :)
