Author Saving long tracks-need info and help

I was on a 3 day on/off road motorcycle trip over the weekend, and traveled
in total about 600 miles. When I went to download all the tracks, ponly the
last 200 miles(about 1 day) were still in the Rhino 120's memory.Bummer.So
today I went out and did a major impulse buy, and got a 60cs on sale.I am
now figuring out that more memory does not mean more track saving
memory. Before I open this box and play with it, I pose these questions:

1.Is there a way to set the "sensitivity" of the saved tracks? What I mean
is,save the track waypoints less often so it uses up less space?

2.Will I be able to save a weelong trip,with maybe 1000 miles?

3.Am i better off with a unit that can write to additional memory, unlike
the current Garmin's?

Thanks for the help,I do appreciate it. Tom

yes you can set the track record mode to "distance" and select the spacing
of track points to, say, 0.1 miles. Or set it to "time" and have track
points spaced to, say, one minute. It is easy to calculate how long the
track memory with 10000 points will last.

with distance = 0.1 miles it will fill up exactly after 1000 miles.

In addition to the ACTIVE LOG track memory with 10000 points, the 60CS has
20 "saved tracks" with 500 points each. You can save the active track log
into a saved one for later reference, BUT the track point density is
compressed in order to fit into the saved memory, and the time stamps aren't
saved. Therefore I never use the saved track memories while on the way. I
need the time stamps for track analysis on my PC.

How do you transfer the track log to the PC? I understand how to transfer a
saved track, but was unaware that the track log can be saved. I am using a
GPSmap 76C.

I think I have a handle on this now.I txferd the original track log that
used 100% of my memory in my Rhino 120 to the pc.I then copied it to the
new 60cs.It used 20% of the new units memory.I then saved it,which limits
it to 500 waypoints, and then deleted the original track log.My memory usage
went to 0,and I could still save 19 more saved tracks. So,now i understand
the difference between an active track log(10000 points total), and a saved
track log(500 points max,20 can be saved).I think the saved tracks strip
some time info, but I have not figured that out yet.I copied the new saved
track to the pc,and was able to view the profile,speed,etc.....

No. A saved track does not allow to display speed on the PC because the
date-and-time of track points is missing. This works only with the active
log. And yes, the number of track points is reduced when saving.

To keep all track analysis options, I never save a new track on the way. I
use only the active log. The saved track memory is only of some use to me
when I visit an area the second time. Then I load the previous track into a
saved track memory for reference.

when transferring the tracks from the GPS to the PC, *all* tracks are
transferred at once, the active log and the saved tracks. I am not sure
whether all PC programs show all tracks, but Gartrip does.

Okay,I just checked it out and that is correct. There is no speed or
time. But i can live without that if I am on a long trip and really only
care about the off roud trails that I find.It is a better option than
losing the tracks entirely.

Makes sense, thanks for helping me straighten this out...I asked all these
questions at a map store in Mesa,Az,who had assured me they were experts
with GPS and could answer any question I had.Not.
