Author 2720 Text to Speech

Recently when I updated the software for my 2720, I downloaded a new voice.
I live in Maryland, USA and I have always used American English. I
discovered not all voices have Text to speech. With the new voice, although
it was much more pleasant to listen to, I no longer had Text to Speech
Capability which is a wonderful feature. -- Without Text To Speech, a 27XX
sounds almost like a 26XX. When I experimented with the voices I learned
that for the voice to have Text To Speech capability, the download file name
must have (TTS) with the name and generally it has a human name as well,
i,e, Jill is American, Karen is Australian, and Emily is British. I loaded
all three into my GPS and find the results quite enjoyable. I can select a
voice at will and after a reboot, navigation continues with a new accent.
An interesting thing about this is Emily's pronunciation of my local streets
is much better than Jill's. Jill can't even pronounce "Maryland" properly.
Emily has no trouble with "Maryland." Apparently more happens than just a
voice change when I select Emily, for example, on the menus the word "color"
is now spelled "colour." I haven't really tested Karen yet, I find Emily's
voice more pleasant to my ear. All of the voices are quite understandable.

The TomTom apparently can use the voices of John Cleese and Ozzy Osbourne
Turn to the motherf***ing left man! :-)

The nüvi 350 (which I dearly love) seems to have the same function, same
voices.

The TTS voices are a bit mechanical, but quite good, and most important, can
pronounce the names of the streets, etc.

The "other" (non-TTS) voices are samples of real people, and they sound
great, but they can't say the street names. They just say "Turn left in 1/2
mile."

Too bad there isn't a cottage industry in providing voice files... I would
LOVE to have Cleese (or perhaps Emma Thompson?) telling me where to get
off...

Be aware that the voices for each country are tuned for that country.
Abbreviations and pronunciations for streets and street names etc in England
will vary from those used in USA and Australia and if you select a voice
from another country, you may not always get the results you expected. For
countries where there are no specific voices you can use the standard voices
without TTS.
