Author list and description of navaid symbols in the MapSource US Topo 100k

I've been trying to google for a list of navaid symbols and their
description/explanation. I see such symbols on MapSource US Topo 100K
maps installed on my nuvi 350, but don't know what they are and what
all the letters and numbers mean.

For example, I assume that a red circle with FL R 4s is a red buoy
'blinking' every 4 seconds, but it's just a guess. Another one, a white
circle with letters Q W is, what? White light? What about a green
circle on land with OC (2) G 15S?

My googling did not result in any useful link, yet--can one of you
sailors help, please?

Great thanks; you put Google to shame!

Here's another reference page that's geared specifically to the
MapSource symbols:

How true! I've been doing various computer-based searches, including in
huge commercial science databases, since the 80s, yet this navaid
symbol problem has defied me. I don't recall exactly how I have been
formulating the search, but it was something like 'list symbols navaid
topo charts'. It would be an interesting exercise to find the
combination of words that would provide your links on the 1st or 2nd
page, instead of 23rd... ;-)

By the way, I hugely miss the original AltaVista's logical and
proximity operators; the highly proprietary algorithm(s) (based on the
hit frequency) used by Google often give too much irrelevant crap at
the top, which could be eliminated with a simple NOT.

I looked for "noaa chart no. 1" because I knew what I was looking for
and wanted a URL.

I got in the habit of using google some years ago and seldom use
another engine if I can find a result with it. Not that google is as
good as it could be or even was. Or is that just my nostalgia
talking?

google presents too much info intended to get people to places where
they can spend money. I suppose that those businesses pay money to
get that preferential positioning in search returns.

I just did a search for "marine chart symbology", returning 33.500
hits and found no link directly to NOAA Chart No. 1 in the first 150
hits. Browsing some of the links would have hinted at or told me what
I was looking for and who publishes it but it simply does not come up
on its own.

Most of us use our accumulated knowledge will to refine the search
string.
