Vista Cx Startup Problem

| I just got yesterday a new Vista Cx.
And I seem to have broken it in record time. ...? ...!
I was walking around the backyard playing with it, getting
familiar with the menus. Turning it on and off, everything
working fine.
When I tried to powered it up this last time it would not start up
beyond the initial Garmin Copyright screen, no matter how long I wait:
Hold power button in. Let go. Garmin screen comes up as it
emits the usual little startup tone. Then it just hangs there.
Indefinitely.
Has anyone else had this happen ?
Shoud I try the "secret" reset startup ?
Send the piece of junk back ?
Thanks,
Mike

What happens if you then hit Enter?

Nothing happens. None of the buttons do anything with one
exception: if you hit the power button again, the display brightness
slider comes up as it should.
I tried the secret start up commands as detailed here:
http://www.gpsinformation.org/dale/secret.htm.
The key strokes that pull up the diagnostic screen
do work. But then I can't get it to go any further.
The key strokes that are supposed to factory reset
the entire machine do Not work. This same factory
reset sequence did work on my previous Vista C.
I guess I'll repack it up and send it back where I
bought it.
