| Anyone ever tried or heard of anyone trying to update the pathetic HD
on ther Garmin Quest ?!?!!? Must be able to do it somehow !

Quest does not have a hard disk but rather solid state memory. I imagine it
might be possible to solder in a new chip for more memory - like the euro
version. 115meg holds a pretty large area though.

Keep in mind that the memory chip used for the 115 MB of downloadable
maps also contains the 13 MB basemap. So if you replace this 128 MB
chip with a 256 MB version (like the euro Quest) you'd also want to
transfer the basemap data over to the new chip.
There's also no guarantee that the NA Quest may not have some
identifier that would let the firmware know that only 128 MB worth of
memory should be recognized.
Seems like quite a project to tackle with no assurance of success as
compared to the option of selling the Quest on eBay and buying a Quest
II instead.

I agree it's a fools errand. Unless by chance the US version has the same
256meg memory but with a bit set to cripple it to 128meg. Then it might be
just a software hack to get 256. Anyone taken theirs apart?
