|

| WhoCares 2006-03-11, 11:48 pm |
| I got this software from Garmin as an upgrade but it came with no serial
number for all the details I bought the garmin streetpilot III from a person
from work who then moved back to his home country and I have no way to get
ahold of him. anyway when I tried the update it wanted me to register but
when I tried it sayed it was already registered to the other guy and all I
want to do is upgrade to the Version 6.02 so I can get rid of all the errors
on the version 4.0 that cam with the streetpilot. it does not even know
where I live it says I'm accross the street from where I am.
Please help me with a way around this with out paying the $400 fee. which is
total BS.

Garmin is your only recourse. If you bought it used, the privious owner
should have given you all the disks for the installed software and the
related unlock codes for them, which are based on the serial number of
that particular unit.
Without that info, if you want to upgrade the maps (I assume you mean
City Nav 4 to City Nav 6), you will need to buy them.
But that will likely not make the Street Pilot move you across the
street where you belong :)

| Thank you Phil
It's not like I'm asking for anything wrong.
It was a free upgrade the garmin sent me.
I own the Streetpilot III. It is not stollen.
Never pay for something that was free!
It's not like I'm asking for version 7 City Nav.
yes I have ver 4 City Nav and it's all ok.
I will try to find the guy I bought it from and get him to either give me
his password or unregister it.
Thank you

Got it!
You need to get all the unlock code records from him.
Getting Garmin to let him unregister the software will be harder than
pulling teeth!

It may well be that you're not asking for anything wrong in your mind,
but the guy you bought it from had no right to sell you the h/w
without transferring the license.
Legally, you don't have a leg to stand on and getting satisfaction
from Garmin is going to be unlikely. This is the danger you run into
when buying licensed S/W and H/W from sources like friends or eBay.
Unless you know exactly what you're doing, you never end up saving
money and in fact may end up spending MORE in the long run.
Sucks, tis true, but lessons are often learned the hard way. I hope
you get lucky and end up beig the exception to the rule.

| You have two options. You can get the unlock codes from the prior owner or
buy new codes from garmin.
