Hi, here is the reply I got from Garmin regarding the memory size limit
in the new "x" model GPS's.

Good data, Darrel: Into my saved folder!

BTW .. it is worth noting that prior to the latest firmware, the 60Cx
limit was 1150 maps. So those who worry about such things (e.g., use
the Topo map products) should update to firmware 2.6 on the 60Cx et al.

I did and it was "we don't know". Maybe they asked the designers :)

Darrel likely gets a better response, since he is a dealer.

You must be doing something wrong .. I get lots of them. Sadly only 50%
make any sense at all. I particularly liked the one that went :

when I told them my unit was leaking and needed RMA'ing (see

)

At last a definitive answer. . . Sort of. The Map Limit being discussed
here is, I presume, the number of map segments the unit can address. That
is, when I use the map tool and select a portion of the map being displayed
and it changes color, I would imagine that would count as 1 Map Unit. Still
sounds like way more than I would need at any given time.

This is all moot for me anyway. I got tired of waiting for an answer on the
about the 1 GB card, and finding a dealer that actually has one in stock,
and bought a 512 MB MicroSD card. I started loading up maps and it sure
holds a lot! Early next week I'm picking up CityNavigator. That will tell me
if I chose wisely as I understand CityNavigator maps take quite a bit more
memory than the topo maps. All else failing, I'll eventually acquire a 1 GB
card when they become readily available.

If City Nav 7 US, you should be OK. I have a bunch of topo maps loaded
(24K and 100K variety), some of MGUSA 4.01 .. and City Nav 7 for all of
the western US (Alaska to thru Colorado) .. in a 512M card.

That is correct.

Correct.

We just ordered memory again yesterday and they still haven't seen any
of the microSD 1GB SanDisk yet and couldn't even give me a price. Dindn't
ask about other brands. We're going to stick with SanDisk. Out of the
hundreds of SanDisk we've sold I've only known of one that failed.

Yes it does.
