Mapsource error message - can you help?

I'm trying to transfer map sets to a large capacity flash card (either
directly to my GPS unit or as a separate drive) but Mapsource comes up
with an error message saying there is not enough free disk space on C
(not the drive I'm trying to write to). I have about 320MB free on my
C-drive and 65Gb free on my D-drive). I'm using the latest Mapsource
6.10.2 but this error comes with previous versions too. I'm running
Win2k.

However, if I perform the same task using my tiny slow laptop, also
running Win2k but with an old Mapsource 6.5 installed the transfer
goes ahead without problems. This is despite having less free disk
space on C than my desktop computer (only 200Mb).

It's very frustrating as building and transferring a 2Gb map set with
my laptop can take all day!

Any ideas?
