Solved it! Mapsource writes temporary data to the temp folder in local
settings of the administrator on my C-drive. I've changed the
directory to my temp directory on my D-drive.

Was this a setting in MapSource or did you change it in the registry?

Neither. I just changed the default TEMP / TMP settings in the Control
Panel/System/Advanced.

I thought at first it was a difference between the old v6.5 (which
still has the routing and is better on my old laptop) and the new
v6.10.2. But then I started checking the differences between the set
up on both my computers as they were running the same OS. I was
walking my dog in the park when it suddenly dawned on me!

Anyway thanks a lot.

Off to Turkey tomorrow for the solar eclipse next Wednesday 29th armed
with my GPS loaded with the eclipse path and maps made from Google
Earth images (as I can't find any ready made maps of Turkey).

Weather looks promising. This is my 5th eclipse.
