| Hello everyone,
I'm waiting for a SiRF star III Bluetooth sensor from Garmin,
but... in what should (...will...) it be better than other brands?
Thank you!

Garmin's stuff is made in the same Taiwanese and Chinese plants as all
the other GPS stuff, you'll normally pay more just because it has their
name on it.
I notice that Garmin is using a 12 channel receiver on the 60Cx series
handhelds that have the SiRF III chipset.
Holux and some of the other cabled and Bluetooth receivers with the SiRF
III chipset are advertising 20 parallel receive channels.

Did Garmin elect to use a slightly less capable chipset? I wonder why
they would not have wanted to use the more capable chipset.
The prices on the stuff with SiRF III chipsets on eBay has gotten pretty
dog eat dog competitive. And the SiRF II stuff has come down too since
the arrival of the SiRF III.
There are some good buys there but you have to shop carefully and make
sure you're dealing with an established and honest seller. And make
sure you check the shipping charges, there are a lot of sellers using
exorbitant shipping charges to make their selling prices look better,
pad their profits, and reduce eBay sellers fees.

And like I said, you have the Gamin 12 channel, $250 receiver at that
link and here you have a 20 channel Holux 236 for $100.00

I simply can't understand why anyone would buy the Garmin on either
technical merits or value.
That is just an example, I'm not recommending that seller, I have no
experience with them.

| Well, the Garmin does come with a full set of maps, and software for Windows
CE, Palm, and Windows XP. Seems worth a few bucks for me.

Yeah, you're right. I didn't read the description.
