Uploading detailed roadmaps to vista
|
|

| I have Mapsource, i can't remember which one. At any rate, the maps, i
recall, are old and outdated. I have arcGIS. How can i upload new
detailed roadmaps to my VISTA from sources like streemap (ESRI) or
other sources? Is there a way to output a line file, convert it to
GARMIN format or something???
any intruction to upload new detailed maps is appreciated.

This description is directed more at topological maps, but has links
for some of the software tools that you may find helpful:

Generally you cannot load non-Garmin maps without a lot of work.
That said, there are some web sites of interest.
http://mapcenter.cgpsmapper.com/
http://rwsmaps.griffel.se/
http://vip.hex.net/~dougs/GPSSM/index.html
And there are others. Never tried these myseslf.

| these are all great...ill give them a shot. I really only need maps
from roads and recreation for texas. They are ok, but old and
outdated. I hate to go purchase a whole new program just for a few
updated roads in one state....hopefully, these directions can help me
out.

| ideally, id like to open arcGIS, grab a selection of roads, and make
just those roads (say all from a county) and just convert those into
something that mapsource can read and upload...with labels and all.

But with Texas you at least get you money's worth: Imagine if all you
needed was Delaware, for example ;)

| even so, after using ESRI map data, Garmin's is far lacking. Is there
a direct way to convert a shapefile to garmin format for easy upload?
I read the links, but have a hard time following and finding stuff
specific to esri.
