Author Does your mobile phone work with the Nuvi 360 ??

Hi,
I've recently purchased a Nuvi 360 and want to use the mobile phone feature. I have a Sony Ericsson P900 which won't sync via Bluetooth. This is a known problem with Garmin, who are trying to resolve the issue. To overcome this problem, I'm going to buy a new flip type mobile, but wandered which makes would actually work. Ideally I want to make full use of the Nuvi hands free facility, which includes the displaying of your contact list from the phone on the Nuvi.

I've tried the Panasonic X70 which syncs fine, but does not display the phone book / contact list on the Nuvi.

If others are planning to link a mobile phone with the Nuvi, it would be interesting for people to list the phones they have and what features work or don't
work so that we know which mobile phones to avoid.

If your interested in making such a list, please append your results / comments below..

This ³feature² of the 360 is completely unnecessary _ pumping a phone thru
another, lower quality device, makes no sense. If your phone has bluetooth
get a proper headset and stop shouting at your GPS!

I for one would love to hear other's experiences with Bluetooth enabled phones. I have a Treo 650 from Verizon, and the pairing worked, but it does not maintain the connection. I can originate calls on the phone, and when the phone rings I can answer then on the Nüvi, but I can't use the phone book, travel guide etc due to the connection issue.

So, everyone, let's keep this thread up and try to see if we can garner enough ammunition to get some fixes put in place for our phones!

Here is another phone that works 100% in that is displays the phone book,
makes calls from the Nuvi, etc etc..

It's the Samsung E530 (my sons girlfriend has one, so I tried it out with
the Nuvi last night..

The samsung Z500 also works very well with the Nuvi 360 bluetooth. You
need to authoize the nuvi under bluetooth connection properties in the
phone to have it connect automatically to the Nuvi once the nuvi is
powered on. After pairing visibility of the phone is set at no.

I can now power on the Nuvi and after start up it connects
automatically to the phone. It is actually quite tempting to keep the
GPS in your pocket as a loudspeaker handsfree set even after leaving
the car or at the bedside. The nuvi screen is much better in sunshine
than a cell phone screen (Samsung, SE etc) and I can use any relevant
call functions on the phone.

Terminating a phone call on the Nuvi screen works fine with the
Samsung. I also tried with a SE M600i, it works fine when alone with
the Nuvi, terminating a call on the nuvi screen doesn't work but the
call is ended anyhow a couple of second after the other party hangs up.

The M600i didn't like a confused BT environment though, I need to
figure out what blocks it.

The only disadvantage I see is that you can't have a mute function with
the Nuvi. They could have added that in the car stand together with the
existing microphone option - or somebody could come up with a BT
device which senses an ongoing call to a headset and mutes the radio.

Add:

The SE M600i works fine with the Nuvi 360, you should choose the
setting for P800 P900 (symbian phones). Terminating a call works well
from the Nuvi screen.

Also Samsung works better if you choose Samsung in the list of phones
in the Nuvi.

I'm using the latest fw beta for the Nuvi.

Since the phones connect automatically when the Nuvi is switched on,
there could be a problem if two users with authorized phones are
present at power on. I'll have to check that situation. It could be
that you need to de-authorize the nuvi in the phones and accept the
connection manually (on the phone).

Add:

You choose phones with the Nuvi. If the phones have authorized the nuvi
to connect you don't need to touch the phone. The nuvi will connect to
the phone last chosen. If you want to switch, do it on the BT page on
the Nuvi. Just selelect any of three phones previously paired and the
connection will be established.

Garmin should add a phone status line to the main screen including the
short name of the phone and the field strength. This would decrease
handling while driving.

A T39 also works but it cuts the BT connection as a call is ended. It
seems that it doesn't accept headset mode. Once you chose it again in
Nuvi BT, it will stay on until the next call is ended. So it can still
be used. The T39 phone book works.
