I am a little confused, what maps can you load onto this machine please?
Do any of them have all footpaths marked? I realise that I will need
mapping on my computer, how good is GPSU as compared to OziExplorer?
Seems to me that as I already have quite a lot of OS maps and a scanner
that might be my best bet.

I presume you are thinking of Garmin TopoGB re OS.

The OS still reign supreme and these maps cannot be loaded into a
Garmin GPS but can be printed from the several software OS packages,
these will also allow you to plan your walking routes on your PC and
download these to virtually any GPS.

The TopoGB cannot printed, they contain contours, roads, railways,
canals, rivers, streams and lakes. They also have some paths, but there
seems no logic in what is included and omitted, a few very obvious are
missing and a few private/no access are included. Difficult to be
precise but about 60-70% paths are shown. Map Scale does not have much
meaning here, but I have been using it extensively since it's release
early this year and I find the accuracy very good both mapping and
altitude.

The TopoGB can be used only on suitable Garmin GPS's, likewise the
"Find a (road) route to my start of walk". The TopoGB also has
placenames and street names, there are a small number of errors here
and also in the minor road/track classification (not I believe Garmin
data), but use your head when driving and don't go down unsuitable
tracks (there have been several press reports of stupidity, probably
using the same source data) it will calculate a new route as you go
along.

With 5 months heavy use I am reasonably satisfied and can live with the
limitations, but there is room for bug fixing the errors. Garmin
mention OS in their blurb which I take with a pinch of salt.
